At Saturday's ward picnic we had some demos of different powerless cooking methods...all of which produced excellent food!
This is a rocket stove, compliments of the Hofer family. It's actually quite a simple contraption that uses a "chimney" surrounded by insulation. It is extremely efficient and doesn't require much fuel (it can use just about any fuel i.e. wood, charcoal, etc.) and I am told that it can boil water in about 3 minutes!
This is a box oven. It's quite inexpensive and very effective as well. All you need to make one is a box, some heavy duty foil, aluminum tape (used in ducting work) and a grill. Using only charcoal (already burned and grey) I was able to make chocolate chip cookies (that turned out better than the ones I made simultaneously in my oven) and homemade bread.
Cliff Barnum did an amazing job with his dutch ovens. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of those but I was impressed! 3 of them stacked on top of one another! I've never seen anything like it!
I'm super excited about all of these possibilities and how amazing the food turned out. It may just be my new preferred way of cooking.
